Sri Lanka versus England ODI Series

Well that was a bit of a shambles today wasn't it? And after we bowled quite well in the last quarter of the Sri Lanka innings. I expected England might struggle a bit batting second under the lights but I didn't think it would be that one sided. I hope we win the toss and bat first next time.

Mustard looked pretty decent with both gloves and bat. Middle order wilted under the pressure. Bowlers performed well with the exception of Anderson who I don't think is up to international standards (although all of the pundits/commentators seem to like him so I might be in the minority)!!!!

You disappoint me - surely being nicknamed 'Statto', that sort of thing is your deprtment? Laughing

I heard the other day England have won only 1 of the 9 (I think) completed ODIs they've played in Sri Lanka, and that was the first one they played there, in 1981!

That's certainly 7 in a row they've lost against them (Monday, World Cup game, five matches in England in 2006); the previous meeting before then was in the Champions Trophy in 2004 when England won under the Duckworth Lewis (sorry, shouldn't swear Wink ) rule at the Rose Bowl, which I was at (on both days!) and which England would have won anyway from the position of the match when it was abandoned (SL 70ish for 4 or 5 chasing 250ish) I can't remeber any further back than that.

Oh well, we live in hope for a victory tomorrow. (At least, winning the toss would be an improvement, wining the game as well would be better)

SRi Lanka Vs England

AMAZING!!, Incrediable, astounding - match fixing?tamping? Call it what you want but england won a one day match in sri lanka without any sign of that swear word(s), which people use when bad weather arrives.
Jeremy

Another good win for England today, and batting second under the lights as well!

It also just proved again that you don't have to have totals of 300-plus to have a good game.

2-1 up with 2 to play then, but there's some dodgy weather aropund in Colombo. Get those sliderules ready....

(Keith, I've just noticed, you've reached your half century - 50 posts. The bad news is, it ain't going on the averages!)

Mr Statto, why the silence? Are you that concerned about having to eat various bits of clothing/prosthetic limbs that you have banned yourself from commenting? Laughing

Mike, I'll save you the touble of re-posting most of what you said about the first match of the series, being as most of it applied today as well.

Still, a 3-2 series win, the first series win for England on the sub-continent for 20 years, the Test series will be tought though, seeing as Murali will prbably be fit again and England will be without Flintoff (again).

Interstingly, I read on Cricinfo today that 20 years ago today, England needed 34 in 4 overs to beat Pakistan in the World Cup match in Rawalpindi - 26 balls and three run outs later, they'd lost by 14 runs.

South Africa rule

Remember your text message from Saturday -

"How did we do in the cricket?"

was, I believe the phrase you used. Confused

As I said in reply at the time, I wasn't aware South Africa were playing on Saturday. England on the other hand, lost by 104 runs!

I'm saying nothing more.... Laughing
